Sueño MLS hopefuls to give it their all
For Jorge Flores of Anaheim, Calif., the key to his trial tomorrow will be "echarle ganas," which loosely translate to "giving it everything he's got."
"I'm going to give it my all and hope that everything goes right," said Flores. "I'm very proud to have made it this far and for all the effort I have put towards this, I hope I get chosen."
To get to the "Final 24" the 17-year-old forward ran the risk of being fired. However, thanks to a very understanding boss, he was able to keep his job and continue with tryouts.
"I didn't go to work last week to come go to tryouts," said Flores. "Luckily, I work for my step dad, and well, he didn't fire me."
Flores' parents have given him only one piece of advice: "Give it my all," said the young player. "Also, (they said) that they are very proud of me."
This week, Flores has concentrated on conditioning by running more and practicing with his club team.
"My friends and I also play soccer in a class we have at school, so I'm doing everything possible to be prepared," he said.
For this only child, being a member of the "Final 24" has put him closer to his dream of playing professional soccer. No matter what the outcome is, Flores will make this dream a reality.
"You can do anything in life; nothing is impossible," he said. "With hard work and a lot of effort everything is possible."
Flores, along with the other talented members of the "Final 24," will face off against the Chivas USA U-19 team Saturday at The Home Depot Center.
